Archaeopteryx is most famous for providing the evolutionary link between dinosaurs and birds. It is known to have evolved from small carnivorous dinosaurs, from which it retained features that include teeth and a long tail. It lived during the Late Jurassic Period, about 150 million years ago, in what is now Europe. Archaeopteryx had hollow thin-walled bones that aided in flight. It’s diet likely consisted of small reptiles, mammals, insects, and possibly fish. There were three fingers on each wing, each with a claw that moved independently. It had no beak, like a bird. But instead, it had a jaw with teeth.
